Welcome to my blog!
Welcome to my blog!
I love photography so this blog will showcase my pictures. You will see (hopefully) some nice pictures, some bad pictures and some experimental pictures (that would be the pictures I take when I dare push the settings button on my camera beyond Auto).

Unity
There's only one picture I can post today and this is it. The flags of the five Nordic countries flies every day in the Helsingborg harbour.
From left, you see the following flags; Norway - Finland - Sweden - Denmark and Iceland. We are all Nordic citizens no matter which country we were born in or live in.

Must've been a sale on the "plus" sign when they were handing out flags to the Nordic countries!
ReplyDeleteI chose the word Unity for a reason.
ReplyDeleteThe Danish flag is from the 13th century, legend says it's a gift from God.
The Swedish flag is inspired by the Danish but uses colors that has been used by Swedes for centuries.
The Norwegian flag is based on the Danish flag due to the 400-year old union between the two countries. That union ended in 1815.
The blue cross in the Norwegian flag symbolizes the union between Norway and Sweden, 1815-1905.
The cross on the Finnish flag symbolizes the brotherhood with the other Nordic countries. Finland were Swedish for 700 years before it was lost to the Russians in war in 1809. They became independent in 1917.
The colors of the Icelandic flag shows the historic connection to Norway, Icelandic ancestors are Norwegian vikings. The cross symbolizes the close bond to the other Nordic countries.
Half of Sweden and whole of Norway used to be Danish. In 1658, Sweden gained Norway and all Danish land east of the sound for good in a final peace agreement with Denmark. In 1905, Norway became independent from Sweden.
As you can see, the Nordic countries have been connected to each other in different ways since many centuries. We have national borders but in mind and heart we are still very connected. And when something happens to one of the Nordic countries, we all unite and become brothers and sisters.
